The number one killer of dogs everywhere is cancer, and some may have thought it was parvovirus or even heart disease and accidents. But poor diet is not getting better, and you may wonder why. During the last pet food recall, so many animals died because of bad nutrition and handling of pet foods whether some knew they were doing it or not.
The more dog foods that come out, more sickness and dog cancers symptoms are popping up at the vet's office daily. A story about diet and dog food safety that is very disturbing and informative is in a book by Anne Martin, called "Food Pets Die For, Shocking Facts About Pet Food".
Anne's two dogs got sick after eating a certain dry food that was analyzed by 2 labs independently, as well as at the Ministry of Agriculture lab. In the end, pet foods are seen today to be made of waste from the production of human food such as bone and blood as well as tail and ligament portions. And what's worse is that it's been shown that animals that have been euthanized are now being found in pet food. So shelter animals and livestock that had to be put down are now in your dog's bowl.
The pet food recall in 2007 that included thousands of cans that were pulled from retailer's shelves would be enough to tell us that there would not have to be recalls if the food was safe to eat in the first place. Rather than that, if the public was made aware of the testing that found the toxicities to begin with such as ethoxyquin, these things could be avoided.
That pet food preservative was tested by the FDA and found it not only unhealthy, but banned US companies from using it. Or you would think that they would have banned it. No, surprisingly the manufacturers said it was too important to get rid of. So, the FDA instead put a limit on the amount of the chemical that can be put in the food, they dropped it to half. So only half of the poison is being ingested, not the whole amount.
Who is protecting your pet and the food that is out there for consumption? Pet foods used to come straight from a butcher or farm, and you knew what was in it. Now you have to think hard about what is going into the food bowl and where it came from, just to make sure it doesn't kill your dog.
There are foods out that meet the daily allowances and vitamins that are recommended, but these recommendations were made by the same people that found the drug in the food to start with. So do you trust this and feed it to your dog, or do you simply not worry about your dog getting dog cancer symptoms.
As a human being, we know that you have to eat good from the 5 food groups and get your supplements to cover all the vitamins you are not getting from food. This is a healthy lifestyle that will keep your body good and strong. So people that follow these recommendations are more than likely healthier than those who do not.
